What's Blooming Now - Late Summer Bloomers
August 31, 2010
Late summer and early fall is still a wonderful time to visit White River Gardens. Although many plants are long passed their bloom and are starting to look tired, there are plenty more that are just getting started. Anemone hupehensis or Japanese Anemone is a perennial that puts on a marvelous show this time of year. Their showy flowers, often in shades of pink or white, tower above lower foliage. Check out Anemone ‘Honorine Jobert’, a white variety in the Heritage Garden, as well as a pink variety in the Whimsey Garden that is displaying both single and double flowers.
Other plants still putting on a show include a few aquatic species such as our water lilies. Look for a dwarf variety, Nympaea ‘White Pygmy’ in a pot in the Ruth Lilly Shade Garden.
Both Salvia ‘Vermillion Bluffs’ and Thunbergia (Black Eyed Susan vine) can be found in the Form and Texture Garden.
Continue visiting White River Gardens in the coming weeks and you will not be disappointed. The show is not over, yet!
